English For Academic Purposes

For students looking to study in Malaysia or other international destinations, this course is perfect for you. Our Academic English course is designed to cater to each student’s needs and ensure that they are well-equipped to tackle both the Malaysia and international educational systems. From high schools and vocational institutions to both postgraduate and undergraduate programs, ILC’s course will help students build their English skills and confidence and tackle each academic level with ease.

Much like corporate English, academic English is more complex than simple conversational English. For non-native English speakers, it might prove a bit challenging but not to worry as our teachers are more than capable of guiding each student through the course .

This course is available in two levels

EAP 1

EAP 2

The Academic English course is split into two different levels begins with a pre-advanced level and ending with an advanced level that is designed to push students confidently into the real world. Each level lasts 12 weeks and offers the opportunity to advance to an IELTS Preparation course for an additional 10 weeks once you graduate.

Once students complete the Academic English course, they will possess the following skills:

Reading
  • Efficient writing of term papers, reports and academic essays.
  • Ability to conduct thorough research on various topics, plan out essays and theses and proofread completed work accurately.
  • Ability to write eloquent college applications.
Listening
  • Capable of understanding course material and instructions from the teacher.
  • Ability to understand and appreciate opinions and suggestions given by fellow classmates.
  • Capable of understand varying tones and accents in addition to comprehending different meanings of words when used in varied contexts.
Research
  • Capable of efficiently planning out projects and assignments.
  • Ability to understand and appreciate various academic articles and essays so that you can apply them to your coursework.
  • Internet use efficiency and ability to search for specific topics as quickly as possible.
Presentation
  • Ability to clearly and articulately present your points and work regardless of audience size.
  • Capable of answering questions and explaining points in detail without stumbling or using too much effort.
  • Ability to deliver concise presentations without rambling.
